Professor Johnston holds a B.A. in accounting from Lycoming College, and an M.B.A. from Lebanon Valley College. She is a Pennsylvania Certified Public Accountant and currently manages her own CPA firm. Before entering higher education, Professor Johnston worked in public accounting for KPMG as an auditor and tax accountant. She left public accounting to work for The Hershey Company, where she worked as a Senior Corporate Accountant and the Sales and Marketing Accounting Manager. She has been managing her own CPA practice for almost 25 years. Her firm focuses on corporate, partnership, trust and individual tax preparation and planning. She also taught accounting and math classes at Harrisburg Area Community College for 15 years.

Professor Johnston teaches various tax, accounting and finance courses, including partnering with the United Way of the Capital Region to manage the Messiah College VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site for lower income taxpayers.

Professional Johnston’s professional affiliations include the National Association of Tax Professionals, Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and the Christian Business Faculty Association (CBFA).
